How are you?

Well 100 days in to lockdown measures across the UK and 100 days since many teams simply closed the office/shop door and said hasty goodbyes and set up their spaces at home.

Juggling work, looking after/educating children, concerning about the world and our actions within it. To name a few, its been a few months of intense emotions. And yet teams have continued and adapted.

I know at Olive + Blossom just this week I have found it the ‘right time’ to start the conversation again, to see how we can add support, meaning, fun and joy to team online conversations and activities.

So maybe now might be the right time to ask a genuine ‘How are you’? and listen carefully to the answer.

Now might be the time to book in some time together where you discuss the future instead of the immediate fires.

Now might be the time to do something different, together. A friend of mine said that their team is done with the pub quizzes now and are ready to come together to do something with more meaning. Another told me their team is just tired of responding and needs to be rewarded with some fun, to fuel the joy and energy for the next half of the year.

So I’m simply asking how are you? how is your team?

A time to grow

Encouraged by a number of wonderful women and friends running their own businesses during this unprecedented time we’ve decided that its time to, slowly (!), get the show back on the road…or in this case online!

We will be doing a number of things to start to put Olive + Blossom back on the team radar and support them during what has not only been a really busy but also sometimes personally challenging time.

Teams continue to work remotely in many cases and are increasingly looking to come together on something non work related. With pub quizzes and a little bit of online fatigue setting in I’m hoping our couple of offerings will help inject some summer energy and fun back into their calls or downtime.

So starting today you can now buy a ‘ team bundle’ of our mini wreath ring kits online here. Either make them together on a call, all following the instructions or enjoy making alone and bring them to the next call to compare and chat through the shared experience.

To achieve a wonderful little make and decoration for the home/desk all your team will need is this kit, scissors and a few little foliage or flower cuttings.

I am also looking to offer my services to join your team calls to make this during a new online team building session, this will be from the end of July. For those with access to more flowers and foliage, or would like us to arrange letter box flower delivery, then a ‘summer flower special’ team building session can be organised during August.

Finally for those local to us and wanting to join together in a confidence booster or join together with their friends in a socially distanced activity I will be putting out some sessions that will enable you to get in the summer/ festival/ perhaps even wedding/engagement spirit! More on this also to come!

So for now its a slow road back but we are ok with that, we will go at the pace of the team and ensure the wellness of those around us.

I hope that by giving your team a chance to create during a mindful shared activity you will support them to give much needed time to blossom and grow, and also reward their tenacity and hard work during the last 14 weeks.

Do say if you would like to chat through ideas for your team. I look forward to speaking with you, stay safe, Rachael x

This is us.

Hello and welcome to our blog site. Here we will discuss all things teams, team building, creativity and of course flowers and the effects they can have on your team.

A little about us. Olive + Blossom provide teams with modern, effective team building sessions with a creative floristry-based approach. Our fun and original experiences help support teams to gain confidence, to improve collaboration, to build stronger communication skills and gain a deeper understanding of team roles, all while learning a new skill

Our goal is to deliver outstanding team building events that go beyond the classroom and have a positive effect on both the team and individual.

Bringing together years of experience to support your team

So, how then did Olive + Blossom come about, and why did it take me so long to get here?

Well, truth be told it took me a while to feel like I’d built up enough experience and learnt all the requisite skills needed to pass on my knowledge and support others in their personal goals and business objectives.

Through the team building days I now run I’m able to help teams deal with collaboration and conflict issues, develop communication and leadership skills, or even just add a little calm to a team with a session focused on mindfulness. All the while getting to impart a healthy dose of floristry knowledge in each session.

Our goal is to help teams overcome whatever challenge is holding them back, while allowing time for fun, the chance to learn a new skill, and enjoy a shared experience which brings the team together.

It’s been a long journey to get here, but it feels like we’ve only just begun. My advice to anyone starting out would be to keep playing and be confident in your own ability.

(Ps if I had to be pushed I would say my favourite flowers have to be sweet peas, so fragrant and delicate and always evoking childhood memories). If you’d like to know more about what we do, please say hello! Either email or check out our Facebook and Instagram

Starting out

When starting out on your own the advice is often to do what you know. From a work people perspective, I have learnt many things over the last 15 years.

I know from my time in industry and MCIPD qualification that whatever business you are in, if you get your people dynamics and strategies close to perfection the sky’s the limit. It’s very easy to say ‘we put our people first’ but what does that truly look like and how much value and time is given to this? In a busy and ever changing world it can be hard to stop. And think. And share. And be real.

I know many things about floristry too, from my City and Guilds night school training, Christmas stints in a hardworking local florist, to almost 2 years spent with a luxury online flower company as their office manager.

I have certainly learnt that teams work best when we recognise our differences, break down barriers and spend time exploring who we are as individual to be truly great teams.

Doing what I know best and sharing my experiences through a creative experience. Now that sounds like fun to me. Are you in?

The Teambuilder

I’ve always been the ‘teambuilder’ (for those of you wanting a better definition…that’s the person who is interested in bringing others together and wants to create harmony amongst the group).

I’m unsure where this came from, perhaps being the youngest of 3 and the only girl contributed to this? Anyway, I digress. I’ve worked in many teams in various industries. In team settings, I can never understand when others can’t see what’s right there in front of them, why they can’t seem to connect the right person with the right skills and preferences into the right team, and especially why companies and managers spend so much time considering someone’s experience rather than observing the real and true behaviours a person can bring to the table.

We often emphasise and spend time talking about what people can’t do (think of those end of year appraisals, we have all been there) rather than thinking about what the individual can do to contribute to the team and how we all benefit.

I probably believed the hype myself and took a while to see the light and get on with embracing what I do well, what my preferences are and channelling that into something worthwhile. So, there it is. I am a teambuilder by nature and I’m good at it. Olive + Blossom is built on and from my love of connecting people and bringing their best self to the for.
